About this tool
Sharing a screenshot or a photo often means hiding something first: a face, a licence plate, an address, a password. Blur Image lets you paint a blur directly on the picture with an adjustable brush and strength, undo strokes, reset to the original and download the result in the original format. Everything happens on a canvas in your browser, so the private image never leaves your device.
Also strip location data with the Image EXIF Remover.
How to use it — quick steps
- 01
Add the image
Drop a PNG, JPEG or WebP file on the dashed area or choose it; it appears on the canvas at full resolution.
- 02
Paint the blur
Set the brush size and blur strength, then drag over faces, plates or text; Undo and Reset help.
- 03
Download the result
Press "Download image" to save the edited picture in its original format, with the blur baked in.
Key features of this tool
Selective blur
Only what you paint is blurred, at the strength you choose; the rest of the picture stays sharp.
Undo and reset
Step back through your strokes or start over from the original without reloading the file.
Stays on your device
The image is edited on a canvas in your browser and saved from there; nothing is uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
Can the blur be reversed by someone else?
A strong blur over a small area destroys the detail; for text and licence plates use a strength of 20 or more and cover the whole area.
Does it work on touch screens?
Yes, paint with your finger or a stylus; use a larger brush on phones.
Is EXIF kept?
No, the image is re-encoded from the canvas, so metadata is dropped, which is usually what you want for a photo you are anonymising.
Are my files or data uploaded?
No. The tool is plain JavaScript that runs in your browser; the files or data you provide here are never uploaded to our servers.
