About this tool
Minified JSON is unreadable; the JSON Formatter makes it legible with consistent indentation and validates it at the same time. It uses the browser's native parser, so it is strict (no comments, no trailing commas) and fast on large documents. Sorting keys produces a canonical layout that is easy to diff between two API responses.

What happens with invalid JSON?
The parser error is shown with the position, which usually points at a missing comma, a trailing comma or single quotes.
Is the key order preserved?
Yes, unless you tick "sort keys", which orders them alphabetically at every level, handy for diffs.
Are my files or data uploaded?
No. The tool is plain JavaScript that runs in your browser; the files or data you provide here are never uploaded to our servers.
