About this tool
QR codes in e-mails, PDFs and screenshots cannot be pointed at with a phone camera. The QR Code Scanner decodes them from an image file using the browser's BarcodeDetector API (or the jsQR decoder where it is missing) and shows the embedded text, URL, Wi-Fi credentials or contact card as plain text, so you can inspect a link before visiting it. Several codes in one image are all returned.
Suspicious link? Run it through Unshorten URL and the Domain Reputation Check.

Key features of this tool
Reads photos and screenshots
Works on camera photos, screenshots and scanned pages as long as the code is sharp and complete.
Decoded on your device
Uses the browser's built-in barcode detector, with a JavaScript decoder as fallback; the image never leaves your computer.
Check before you open
Decoded URLs are shown as text, so you can run them through the Unshorten URL or Domain Reputation tools first.
Frequently asked questions
Which browsers can scan?
All current browsers: Chrome, Edge, Opera and Safari use their built-in barcode detector, and a JavaScript decoder (jsQR) handles Firefox and older versions.
No QR code found
Make sure the code is in focus, not cut off, with some quiet space around it and good contrast; very small codes in large photos may need cropping.
Can it read other barcodes?
This tool is limited to QR codes.
Are my files or data uploaded?
No. The tool is plain JavaScript that runs in your browser; the files or data you provide here are never uploaded to our servers.
