About this tool

The Image Compressor shrinks PNG and JPEG files without a server: JPEGs are re-encoded at the quality you choose, PNGs are reduced to a palette with optional dithering and compressed with the browser's deflate, and both can be resized to a maximum dimension. Each result shows the new size and the percentage saved, with per-file downloads and a .zip of everything.

It is handy for web images, e-mail attachments and screenshots. Related: Image EXIF Viewer and Image EXIF Remover.

Key features of this tool

  • Smart defaults

JPEG at quality 80 and 256-colour PNG usually cut files by 60-90% with no visible loss; originals are kept when they are already smaller.

  • Files never leave your device

Reading, compressing and rewriting happen in your browser with the File API; nothing is uploaded to IPVoid.

  • Batch friendly

Up to 25 files at once, each row has its own download link and the whole batch can be saved as a .zip archive.

Frequently asked questions

Will the images lose quality?

JPEG compression is lossy: quality 80 is visually identical for photos, 60 shows slight artefacts. PNG colour reduction to 256 colours is invisible for screenshots and graphics; pick Lossless for images with many gradients.

Why is a PNG bigger after compression?

A PNG with thousands of colours cannot always be stored smaller as an indexed image. When the result is larger, the original is kept and marked "already optimised".

Is EXIF data kept?

No: the image is re-encoded from pixels, so EXIF, GPS and colour profiles are dropped, which also saves space. Use the Image EXIF Remover if you only want to strip metadata.

Are my photos uploaded?

Never. Compression runs in your browser with the canvas API and a Web Worker; the page makes no network request with your files.
