About this tool
The Internet speed test measures your download speed, upload speed, and connection responsiveness to help you understand how well your internet performs. Whether you're streaming videos, playing online games, working from home, or browsing the web, your results can help you see if your connection is fast and stable enough for your needs. You can also use the test to troubleshoot slow internet or compare your connection at different times.
This speed test can also help you measure your VPN's download and upload speeds. Try also the WebRTC Leak Test and What Is My ISP to check for IP leaks and identify your ISP.
How to use it — quick steps
- 01
Press "Run test"
Close downloads and streaming first so they do not share the line; the test starts with the latency pings.
- 02
Watch the chart
Download runs for 10 seconds over 4 connections, then upload does the same; the chart draws speed live.
- 03
Read the three boxes
Latency with jitter and best ping, then download and upload speed in Mbit/s. Run again to compare.
Key features of this tool
Latency, download and upload
Twelve pings for latency and jitter, then 10 seconds of download and 10 seconds of upload over four parallel connections.
Nearest test server
Data is exchanged with the closest Cloudflare edge location, which keeps the measurement close to your real line speed.
Nothing installed, nothing stored
Runs entirely in the browser; the results are shown to you and are not saved anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the result lower than my plan?
Wi-Fi, other devices using the line, VPNs and the browser itself all cost bandwidth; test on a cable, close other apps and compare with your router's own speed test.
How much data does the test use?
Roughly 250 MB per run on a fast connection (about 200 MB down and 50 MB up); on mobile data run it sparingly.
What are latency and jitter?
Latency is the time a small request takes to reach the server and come back; jitter is how much that time varies. Gaming and video calls care more about these than about raw speed.
Which browsers are supported?
Current versions of Firefox, Chrome, Edge and Safari. The test needs fetch streams and may be less accurate on very old browsers.
