About this tool

READMEs, changelogs and notes are written in Markdown, but reading the raw text is not the same as seeing the result. The Markdown Preview renders a document in your browser, headings, emphasis, links, images, code, lists, task lists, quotes and tables, into a clean page you can read in full screen, without any raw HTML being executed. Handy for checking a README before pushing it or reading a file someone sent you.

How to use it — quick steps

  1. 01

    Add the Markdown

Paste the text or press [load from file] to read a .md or README file from your device.

  2. 02

    Press "Preview Markdown"

The document is rendered in your browser into a clean, readable page with code blocks and tables.

  3. 03

    Read or check it

Use [full screen] to read without distractions, or check the result for broken lists and tables.

Key features of this tool

  • The syntax people use

Headings, bold, italic, strikethrough, inline code and fenced blocks, links, images, ordered and bullet lists, task lists, blockquotes, tables and rules.

  • Safe rendering

The preview is built from DOM nodes, never from raw HTML, so scripts or embedded HTML in a file cannot run; only http(s) links and images are honoured.

  • Stays in your browser

The text is rendered locally; nothing is uploaded or stored.

Frequently asked questions

Which Markdown flavour is this?

CommonMark basics with the GitHub extensions most people rely on: tables, task lists and strikethrough. Footnotes, math and raw HTML are not rendered.

Why is my HTML not showing?

Raw HTML is deliberately ignored for safety; the preview only renders Markdown constructs.

Can I export the HTML?

This tool is a viewer; copy the source with the action in the header or use a converter for HTML output.

Are my files or data uploaded?

No. The tool is plain JavaScript that runs in your browser; the files or data you provide here are never uploaded to our servers.
