M4A to MP3
Turn M4A/AAC files such as iPhone voice memos into MP3 files that play everywhere, at the bitrate you choose.
- Runs in your browser
- Free to use
About this tool
The M4A format Apple devices produce is not accepted by many players, forms and older systems. The M4A to MP3 converter uses the browser\'s AAC decoder and the LAME MP3 encoder in your browser to produce standard MP3 files at the bitrate you choose, up to 25 at a time, with nothing uploaded.

How to use it — quick steps
- 01
Add the M4A files
Drop the files on the dashed area or choose them from your device, up to 25 files of 50 MB each per run.
- 02
Choose the bitrate
128 kbps is plenty for voice memos; 192 or more for music exported from iTunes or Logic.
- 03
Press "Convert to MP3"
Each file is decoded by the browser and encoded with LAME; play the result and download it.

Frequently asked questions
My file will not decode
Some .m4a files contain Apple Lossless (ALAC) or DRM-protected audio that browsers cannot decode; export them from iTunes/Music as AAC first.
Is there quality loss?
AAC to MP3 is a lossy-to-lossy conversion; at 192 kbps the difference is inaudible for speech and most music.
Are my files or data uploaded?
No. The tool is plain JavaScript that runs in your browser; the files or data you provide here are never uploaded to our servers.
