About this tool

Trimming a clip should not mean uploading your video to a stranger\'s server. The Video Cutter runs FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly in your browser: pick the start and end, get an exact cut (re-encoded) or an instant lossless one that begins at the previous keyframe, and download the section in the original container. A preview player before and after helps you find the exact moments.

How to use it — quick steps

  1. 01

    Add the video

Drop an MP4, WebM or MOV file on the dashed area or choose it; a preview player helps you find the times.

  2. 02

    Enter start and end

Times as mm:ss or seconds; leave the end empty to keep everything after the start; pick fast or precise.

  3. 03

    Press "Cut video"

FFmpeg runs in your browser; the result appears with a player and a download in the original format.

Key features of this tool

  • Frame-accurate or fast

The default mode re-encodes for exact start and end; the fast mode copies the streams without re-encoding (instant, lossless) but can only begin at a keyframe.

  • Original format kept

MP4 stays MP4, WebM stays WebM, MOV stays MOV; MKV and AVI are written as MP4.

  • FFmpeg in your browser

The real FFmpeg, compiled to WebAssembly and loaded on first use (about 30 MB, then cached); the video is processed locally and never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the fast cut longer than I asked?

Without re-encoding, a video can only start on a keyframe, so the fast mode begins at the last keyframe before your start time and can add several seconds (a whole clip, if it has a single keyframe). The default frame-accurate mode re-encodes and gives exactly the range you entered.

Why is the first use slow?

FFmpeg (about 30 MB) is downloaded the first time and cached; after that it starts in a second or two.

Which files are supported?

MP4, M4V, WebM, MOV, MKV and AVI up to 150 MB; the preview depends on what your browser can play, but FFmpeg can still process files the player cannot show.

Are my files or data uploaded?

No. The tool is plain JavaScript that runs in your browser; the files or data you provide here are never uploaded to our servers.
