About this tool
A PDF you receive with a password is a nuisance every time you open it. PDF Password Unlock decrypts the file with the password you already know and saves an unlocked copy, entirely in your browser, so neither the document nor the password is sent anywhere.

Pages, text, images and forms are kept as they are; only the encryption is dropped.
Frequently asked questions
Can it crack a password I do not know?
No. This tool removes protection from PDFs you can already open; it does not guess or break passwords.
Which encryption is supported?
Standard PDF security (RC4 and AES-128/256) as produced by Acrobat, Word, LibreOffice and most tools. Certificate-encrypted or DRM-protected PDFs cannot be opened.
The file opens without a password but says it is protected
That is an owner password (restrictions on printing or copying) with no open password; enter the owner password to remove it.
Are my files or data uploaded?
No. The tool is plain JavaScript that runs in your browser; the files or data you provide here are never uploaded to our servers.
